WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) wants to know why a union with Democrat party ties hired a child molester as a local chapter leader.
The House Education and Workforce Committee, which is chaired by Walberg, is investigating the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and demanding to know why its San Francisco chapter hired sex offender Noelia Linares. The union gained national attention during the recent L.A. riots when law enforcement arrested another SEIU leader.

In a letter addressed to April Verrett, President of the SEIU, Walberg puts the pressure on the union to detail its hiring processes. “Given the vulnerable populations many SEIU workers serve, the Committee seeks to understand how this occurred and whether reforms to the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) are necessary.”
The letter also cites a June 11, 2025 article from the Daily Caller News Foundation which reports Linares plead no contest in 2018 to sex crimes involving several minors. That plea stemmed from Linares’ 2017 arrest at South San Fancisco High School where she worked as a teacher. Walberg wrote, “Ms. Linares is now on California’s sex offender registry with a crime description of sex penetration with foreign object of a victim under 18 years of age.”
Walberg also referenced SEIU’s 2 million member union and requested Verrett’s “prompt attention.”
