LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Anyone in Michigan looking to fish or ride off-road can skip the licenses this weekend as the state waives fishing and trail permit requirements for its annual summer Free Fishing Weekend.
From June 7-8, residents and out-of-state visitors can fish without a license on all Michigan waters, including inland lakes and the Great Lakes. The state will also drop its recreation passport requirement for entry to state parks and boating access sites during the two-day event.

“If you need another reason to get outdoors…this is it,” DNR Director Scott Bowen told the Detroit Free Press, encouraging everyone to fish, ride Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) trails, and visit state parks over the weekend.
The state’s Free ORV Weekend runs alongside the fishing promotion. Riders can use Michigan’s 4,000 miles of designated ORV trails without a trail permit or license.
Michigan holds two Free Fishing Weekends per year—one in winter over Presidents Day weekend, and one in summer following the first full week of June.
