LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s GOP gubernatorial race is growing.

Former Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard has entered the Republican race for governor. The 44-year-old attorney announced his run with a video on social media. Leonard said his campaign will focus on growing Michigan, lowering taxes and reforming regulations.

Leonard joins a crowded GOP field that already includes Congressman John James, State Senator Aric Nesbitt, Mike Cox, Anthony Hudson, Marni Sawicki, and Evan Space.

On the Democratic side, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson are running to replace Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. She cannot run in 2026 due to term limits. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, a former Democrat, is running as an Independent.
