LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After President Donald Trump ordered U.S. forces to attack three key nuclear sites in Iran June 21, Michigan lawmakers voiced their opinions.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer tweeted: “My top priority is the safety and security of the people of Michigan. U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) issued a statement in which she denounced Trump’s actions.
“President Trump sending U.S. troops to bomb Iran without the consent of Congress is a blatant violation of our Constitution,” Tlaib said in the statement. “The American people do not want another forever war. We have seen where decades of endless war in the Middle East gets us—all based on the lie of ‘weapons of mass destruction.’ We are not falling for it again.”
U.S. Rep. John James (R-Macomb County) thanked the president for carrying out Operation Midnight Hammer.
“I hate war,” James said in a video on X. “I’ve seen what Iranian proxies have done to Americans in Iraq and innocent civilians.”
He went on to say: “President Trump is the first president in my lifetime who’s actually willing to use peace through strength — who’s actually willing to put his money where his mouth is — to actually support nuclear non-proliferation and making sure that a nuclear Iran is never a thing.”
House Republican Conference Chair and U.S. Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Bruce Township) shared James’ sentiment.
