LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In the wake of high-stakes, joint U.S.-Israel airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Michigan officials are ramping up security efforts and asking residents to stay alert – especially given the potential for retaliatory threats on American soil.
On June 22, the Department of Homeland Security upgraded the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) to a “heightened threat environment,” triggered by concerns that Iran or Iran-affiliated actors may launch cyber attacks, terror plots, or hate crimes domestically. This advisory is valid through September 22, 2025.

In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office confirmed Sunday that both the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Michigan National Guard are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with federal partners. While officials say there are no specific threats at this time, the state isn’t taking any chances.
Public Information Officer Lt. Mike Shaw said in an email to the Lansing State Journal that while the agency doesn’t reveal security measures, “we do remind members of the community to remain vigilant in their day to day travels, especially at large events.”
And with large public events like the 4th of July celebrations coming up, there are plenty of target-rich places that could draw the wrong kind of attention if people let their guard down.
Precision strikes.
The most recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran, carried out Saturday, June 21, have been described as highly coordinated and exceptionally precise, targeting multiple underground Iranian nuclear sites. In response, Iran launched a limited number of missiles toward U.S. bases in the Middle East, but the retaliation caused minimal damage and no reported casualties.
While no official declaration of war has been issued, the possible fallout has national security experts warning of potential blowback, especially from Iranian-aligned sleeper cells that may already be inside the United States due to former President Biden’s open borders.
Delta Force vet sounds alarm.
Former U.S. Army Delta Force operator Tyler Grey, appearing on The Steve Gruber Show Monday morning, spoke bluntly about the situation. Grey, who served as a sniper-qualified Army Ranger before joining Delta Force, warned that an attack on American soil is not only possible – but likely.

“In my opinion, it’s only a matter of time before we have something like a Mumbai-style attack in the U.S.,” Grey said. He went on to point to the country having a massive terrorist attack in the future from a sleeper cell that has been planning something for years. Grey said, “We need to be more proactive going forward, because you have to deal with these threats before, not after they happen.”
Grey, who praised the military precision of the operation itself, downplayed talk of war though. He compared Trump’s actions to Obama’s use of predator drones, calling the idea of labeling the situation as a “war” laughable.
Grey also emphasized the importance of situational awareness when talking with Gruber – a term that goes beyond simple caution. He encouraged everyday citizens to look for signs of hyper- awareness in public spaces, especially from individuals who appear to be scanning their surroundings or exhibiting unusually focused behavior.
“The fastest thing a predator will spot is another predator,” Grey said. “I’m looking for someone that is hyper aware, looking for someone like myself.”
Updated ceasefire info.
As of June 25, 2025, a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran, brokered by Qatar and announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, appears to holding despite early violations by both sides.
Meanwhile, Michigan continues to stay ready and alert for anything. State officials continue to emphasize the importance of public awareness – urging residents to stay vigilant, report unusual activity, and keep up with official updates.
