ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As the Connor Stalions saga of sign-stealing develops, the NCAA has sent Central Michigan University a Notice of Allegations. This notice comes as part of the sign-stealing scandal involving Stallions in his time at the University of Michigan.

The allegations come after Stalions was reported to be on the CMU sideline when the Chippewas played Michigan State. The sign-stealing incident allegedly took place on October 31 when a photo of Stalions appeared online in CMU gear in the 2023 season-opening game vs. MSU. Stalions has denied being on the sidelines. The photo online shows a person who looks like Stalions, disguised with facial hair and dressed in CMU coaching staff gear.

Stalions said on the Netflix documentary, “I don’t recall attending a specific game there and don’t even think this guy looks like me.”

Former Michigan offensive coordinator Jim McElwain was the head coach for CMU at the time of the incident, while Jake Kostner, who had worked with the Stallions as a student assistant from 2015-18, was the quarterback coach. McElwain retired at the end of the 2024 season, while Kostner resigned before the season started.

According to an NCAA dashboard of investigations, CMU was informed of the notice on June 27. That gave CMU a 90-day window to respond. CMU has cooperated fully with the NCAA on the investigation for the past 10 months.
