DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Matt Weiss, former University of Michigan offensive coordinator, appeared in federal court in downtown Detroit on Thursday. Weiss, who is representing himself, is the plaintiff in this consolidated civil lawsuit that also names the University of Michigan, tech firm Keffer Development Services, UM officials Jim Harbaugh, and Athletic Director Warde Manuel.
This hearing focused on Weiss’s motion to set aside a default judgment, which he claimed was improper service. He says, “I was never properly served by the plaintiffs.” A postal worker mistakenly signed a certified letter at his mother’s house in Connecticut. This motion was filed for an extension for Weiss.

Judge Goldsmith advised Weiss in the courtroom saying, “You are obviously at a very important stage in this case. You should strongly consider counsel.”
Weiss and all the defendants must respond to this consolidated complaint by September 2.
After leaving the courtroom, Weiss hid behind a pillar outside, ducked the media and cameras, ran down the stairs to a jeep, and sped away.
He is accused of hacking more than 150,000 accounts of college athletes, accessing personal, medical, and intimate information. In a different criminal case, he is facing 20 charges to hacking on a large scale.
