DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The city of Detroit will increase fines levied against parents, legal guardians and responsible adults, whose children violate curfew or are involved in “delinquent acts.”

The first offense will increase from the current $75 to $250. Repeat offenses were $100 to $500 but now will just be a flat $500. There will also be mandatory probation added on.

“These changes aim to enhance deterrence and promote parental engagement, helping to mitigate youth gun violence and improve community safety,” the Office of the Chief Financial Officer stated in a memo.

The city of Detroit has a curfew that makes it unlawful for a minor to be on a public street, sidewalk, playground, vacant lot or other public place without being accompanied by a responsible adult. The curfew for minors ages 15 and younger is 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and for minors ages 16 and 17, it is 11 p.m. through 6 a.m.
