DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) The bubble has burst for more than 80 workers at PepsiCo’s Mack Ave. facility: the beverage company announced July 23 that it will close its maintenance, manufacturing, and transport operations in Detroit, with affected employees working through Sept. 27 before being laid off.

State filings show the majority of the layoffs—51 positions—are operations technicians, according to The Detroit News

Senior human relations manager Ashley Benson told Mayor Mike Duggan and Michigan labor officials, “We are providing information to affected employees about other job openings and actively working to place them at nearby facilities.”

Though production is ending, PepsiCo will keep its delivery, field service, fleet, sales and warehouse operations running at its 1555 Mack Ave. facility, just north of Eastern Market.
