LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Michigan’s crumbling roads are matched only by the stalemate in Lansing, where a Democratic-backed digital ad campaign is increasing pressure on the state Senate to finally deliver a long-term funding fix.
America Works USA, a group aligned with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Democratic Governors Association, is urging voters to hold Senate Democrats accountable for the stalled “MI Road Ahead Plan.”

Between June 9 and July 7, America Works USA ran Facebook ads highlighting “record road construction from state Democrats” while also reminding voters that Michigan’s roads remain far from smooth. The campaign calls on constituents to pressure senators to support Whitmer’s plan, which hinges on increased taxes on marijuana and businesses, alongside redirecting existing revenues toward infrastructure improvements.
Kevin Donohoe, spokesperson for America Works USA, specifically called on the Senate to “step up” to ensure dependable roads for Michigan drivers and businesses, according to The Detroit News.
Despite the public push, however, legislative progress remains at a standstill.
The Republican-controlled House passed a $3.1 billion road funding proposal in March, but the Democratic Senate has yet to present or approve its own long-term plan. Whitmer has publicly praised herself and House Speaker Matt Hall as the only lawmakers showing “guts and brains” on road funding.
Money linked to Whitmer’s political allies continues to fuel groups like America Works USA, which has spent millions backing the governor’s agenda, including the latest digital ad campaign valued between $11,500 and $17,000.
