LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Attorney General Dana Nessel joined a lawsuit that challenges the federal government’s efforts to refuse “gender-affirming care” to individuals under the age of 19.
Executive order.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Jan. 28 to protect children from what he called “chemical and surgical mutilation.” This refers to puberty blockers, surgical procedures to change people’s sexual organs, and other procedures.

In the order, Trump said the U.S. government will not “fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another.”
Kevin Kijewski, a Republican candidate for attorney general running to take over after Nessel’s term expires next year, said he would “fully support” President Donald Trump’s executive orders that “protect vulnerable children from harmful and irreversible ‘gender-affirming care’ procedures, which lack scientifically proven long-term benefits and cause lifelong damage.”
“Unlike Dana Nessel, I won’t waste taxpayer dollars suing the federal government to push fringe ideologies as I’ll prioritize enforcing laws that safeguard our kids, uphold parental rights, and focus on real public safety issues,” Kijewski told Michigan News Source.
Nessel’s response to executive order.
Nessel, along with other attorneys general who filed the lawsuit against the Trump administration, said the federal government is “overstepping its authority.”
“The Trump Administration is attempting to strip away lawful, essential healthcare from vulnerable youth. These orders are illegal and dangerous and have no medical or scientific basis,” Nessel said in a press release. “I will continue to protect families, defend doctors, and stop politicians from putting our kids’ lives at risk.”
Response to Nessel.
Kijewski told Michigan News Source that, in 2017, the FDA “documented over 10,000 adverse events related to puberty blockers like Lupron, including brittle bones, psychiatric issues, brain swelling, and vision loss, underscoring the absence of robust safety data for their off-label use in gender dysphoria.”

“Her [Nessel’s] obsession with suing President Trump 28 times since January shows she’s more interested in fringe political theater than defending Michigan families,” Kijewski said. “As AG, I’ll stop this nonsense, defend doctors who follow ethical standards, and ensure politicians like her can’t endanger our kids with her radical agendas.”
