ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — For the second time in three years, the University of Michigan is hunting for a new president—and the regents have named their search party.
Thirteen appointees, mostly drawn from faculty, student leaders, and administrators, will join the eight-member Board of Regents to form the official search committee. The lone outside voice is Jeff Blau, a 1990 UM graduate and CEO of Related Companies, a New York real estate firm led by major donor Stephen Ross, according to The Detroit News.

Additionally, Democratic regents Mark Bernstein of Ann Arbor and Mike Behm of Grand Blanc will serve as co-chairs of the panel. Chicago-based Spencer Stuart, an executive search firm, will run the process, with listening sessions planned for the fall and no set deadline for picking a finalist.
The vacancy opened after former president Santa Ono resigned this year following a failed bid to lead the University of Florida—just two years after replacing Mark Schlissel, who was dismissed over alleged misconduct. Regent statements promise a “visionary and dynamic” leader with a proven record in complex organizations, though the search comes amid federal scrutiny of higher education and recent controversies on campus.
UM is still seeking survey feedback from its community through August 15, with the presidential appointment expected to draw close public attention.
