DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Moving up three spots in the newest MLB Power Rankings, Detroit is the second-best team in the MLB behind the Milwaukee Brewers. Eight MLB writers contribute weekly to the rankings.
Detroit jumped three spots from fifth to second and has won 14 games in August. They have won nine of their last 11 games with a four-game and five-game win streak. They swept the Houston Astros at home in a three-game series from August 18-20, 10-0, 1-0, and 7-2.

With 78 wins, Detroit has an 11-game lead over Kansas City and the best record in the AL. They are six games better than Houston’s 72 wins, and New York has 71 wins. If Detroit keeps this pace, it will have the chance to host the AL playoffs, which they have not done since going to the World Series in 2006.
