DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The first football game of 2025 for Detroit wasn’t ideal, as they were held to seven points by the Los Angeles Chargers. Detroit’s offense and defense struggled in the first game, featuring two new coordinators after losing both to head coaching jobs. Offensive stars Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, and Penei Sewell didn’t see the field for this first game.

The Lions’ offense collected just one first down and 197 yards of total offense, with 104 yards passing. They gave up two sacks with three interceptions, with just 93 yards rushing. Kyle Allen started the game and went 9-of-14 for 91 yards and two interceptions. Hendon Hooker threw six times, completing just three passes with one interception, and was sacked twice. Craig Reynolds recorded the only touchdown in the second quarter and had 38 yards rushing on 10 carries. Isaac TeSlaa led the team with 46 yards receiving on just two catches.

Detroit gave up 261 yards of offense and allowed both fourth-down conversions for the Chargers, with two rushing and two passing touchdowns. Ezekier Turner led the team with seven tackles, and Grant Stuard had one sack.

Detroit’s next game is Friday, August 8, at Atlanta, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
