LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – People who play the lottery in Michigan have not claimed $426 million in winnings over the past 10 years.

That’s according to data released by the Bureau of State Lottery.

Michigan’s lottery awarded $3.02 billion in prizes in 2024, leaving $49.1 million of prizes not claimed.

People with winning tickets have one year to claim their award. The value of unclaimed prizes is returned to the School Aid Fund.

The worst year for people not claiming their winnings was 2021 when there was $78.1 million in unclaimed prizes. About 26% of the lottery ticket sales in 2024 were disbursed to the School Aid Fund, or $1.25 billion.
