ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The city of Ann Arbor is seeing the fruits from a new kind of tax voters approved last November to benefit senior citizens.

The city of Ann Arbor is expected to approve a $200,000 grant from Washtenaw County for the Ann Arbor Senior Center to help pay for operations, programming and improvements. There were 10 senior centers in the county that were to get $200,000 apiece.

The money comes from the Washtenaw County Older Persons Millage passed by voters in November 2024. The millage is projected to raise more than $11.5 million in 2025. It runs from 2024 through 2031 with the money earmarked for activities and services for people age 60 or older.

According to the U.S. Census, 16.4% of the county’s population is 65 and older as of 2023.

The Ann Arbor Senior center offers various programs, such as yoga and art workshops and holds regular social gatherings such as game nights and coffee mornings. It also hosts seminars and workshops.
