HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Hamtramck City Council members Mohammed Hassan and Muhtasin Sadman were both charged with election law crimes involving filling in false votes on absentee ballots, according to WWJ.
Sadman, 26, was charged with election law forgery, forging a signature on an absentee ballot application and providing a false statement in an application for an absentee ballot, WWJ reported. Hassan was charged with election law forgery, two counts of unqualified elector attempting to vote, forging a signature on an absentee ballot application and providing a false statement in an application for an absentee ballot.

The alleged crimes took place during the 2023 election.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office stated that there were six people who worked together during the 2023 election and received blank absentee ballots signed by naturalized citizens. Those six people would write in the name of the candidate they supported, WWJ reported.
Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffery Yorkey was appointed the special prosecutor in the case and announced the charges on Monday.
Earlier this year, a private investigator reported that Hamtramck City Council members Muhith Mahmood and Abu Musa were not living inside the city limits of Hamtramck when they served. The private investigator, hired by the city, reported that Musa lived in Warren and Mahmood lived in Troy. Both are still serving on the City Council, according to the city’s website.
