DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit has strengthened its pitching staff by adding four pitchers to its bullpen. They have acquired former Washington National Kyle Finnegan, Cleveland Guardian Paul Sewald, Texas Ranger Codi Heuer, and Atlanta Brave Rafael Montero as they pursue a World Series title.
Finnegan has recorded 20 saves in each of the last three seasons, being only one of five pitchers in the MLB to do that. He has a 4.38 ERA with 20 saves in 40 appearances this year and was an All-Star last season, finishing with a 3.68 ERA and 38 saves. The Tigers gave up their No. 15 prospect, Josh Randall, and RHP R.J. Sales.

Sewald, who is coming from rival Cleveland for cash and a player to be named, is a veteran closer who has pitched for Seattle and Arizona. Last year, he posted 16 saves with Arizona before an injury ended his season.
Heuer was acquired for cash considerations from Texas and will report to Triple-A Toledo. The 29-year-old has been in 87 MLB games with a 3.16 ERA and 82 strikeouts with three saves.
Montero has postseason experience, winning a World Series with Houston in 2022. Just before the Thursday deadline, he was the Tigers’ first trade, giving Double-A infielder Jim Jarvis to the Braves. He played for the Astros for five years and had 14 saves for Houston.
