LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A photo on social media is going viral that alleges two Democrat House members remained seated and snickered during a moment of prayer on the floor in honor of Charlie Kirk’s assassination on Wednesday.
The photo shows House Democrats Joey Andrews and Emily Dievendorf seated while some others are standing with their heads lowered. Andrews and Dievendorf do not have their heads lowered. “Libs are evil,” Libs of TikTok posted underneath the photo.
Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator who had emerged as a leader of the Trump MAGA movement, was shot and killed on Wednesday during an event in Utah.
In a video of the floor meeting, Republican Rep. Bradley Slagh asks for a moment of prayer. The video shows a few other people sitting at the start of the prayer.
Slagh asked his colleagues to bow their heads.
Observers said not everyone was standing for the moment of silence and they were not asked to stand.
State Rep. Bryan Posthumus, a Republican, said he was sitting in prayer as were other state representatives.

Posthumus said it was not in the character of Andrews or Dievendorf to be disrespectful during prayer.
“I would be very surprised if they were snickering during prayer,” Posthumous said.
Andrews and Dievendorf didn’t immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
House Democrat Ranjeev Puri put out a statement condemning the killing of Kirk.
“The killing of Charlie Kirk was a horrific act of cruelty, and my heart goes out to his family and everyone impacted. I am appalled and saddened by today’s events,” her statement read.
Puri then mentioned other incidents, including the shootings of Minnesota politicians Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman, the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and the plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
“Each of these incidents only lasted a few news cycles, but collectively they show a dark pattern of regression in our nation, returning us to a time where political violence was commonplace. A time that we as a country thought we had overcome. Today was another reminder that we have not.”
