MASON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Ingham County Commissioners have renamed a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) committee, stripping DEI from its title.

The Ingham County Cultural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will now be known as the Employee Driven Growth and Engagement Committee. The Ingham County Board of Commissioners acknowledged the name change at its Sept. 23 meeting.

Ingham County Cultural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee can be traced back to 1999 when it was named the Ingham County Cultural Diversity Committee. The diversity committee’s signature event is an annual potluck luncheon it has during Black History month in February.

In January, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that ended DEI in federal agencies and federal contracting.

The committee wasn’t the only name change involving DEI. Ingham County also stripped DEI from the title of a director. On public documents, Feliz Rodriguez previously held the title of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Director for Ingham County. She now has a new title of Strategic Policy and Public Impact Director.
