EAST LANSING, Mich. – The woman who filed a Title IX complaint against Michigan State University football coach Mel Tucker didn’t make a dollar in compensation while serving as president of her sexual violence awareness nonprofit, according to four years of financial filings.

Brenda Tracy is listed as president of Set The Expectation, which has financial documents posted online from 2021 through 2024. In the four years Tracy served as president of Set The Expectation, she was never listed as receiving any compensation.

Executive Director Liz Anderson was the only employee to be paid in the four years of IRS filings. Anderson made $6,000 in 2021, $54,810 in 2022, $50,004 in 2023 and $0 in 2024.
Tracy estimated she worked one hour a week with the nonprofit in the financial filings.
MSU worked with Tracy.
On Aug. 31, 2021, Michigan State University’s football program announced it had signed up with Tracy’s nonprofit. Two years later on Sept. 10, 2023, USA Today broke a story which lead to Mel Tucker’s suspension without pay for claims of sexual harassment against Tracy. MSU eventually fired Tucker.
In the last filing in 2024, Set The Expectation listed having just $8,718 in revenues and only $2,568 in total assets. Four years of total for the nonprofit were $28,954 (2021), $128,567 (2022), $96,352 (2023) and $8,718 (2024).
In 2023, the nonprofit stated it had $96,352 in revenues and $124,878 in expenses. It’s 2021 filing shows 2018 as the first year the nonprofit took in revenue with $8,962 reported that year.
The lawsuit.
Tracy filed a federal lawsuit against MSU. The Detroit News reported recently that Tracy’s lawyers said MSU “weaponized litigation filings, media communications, and institutional authority to stigmatize her, destroy her nonprofit and speaking business, and silence her.”

Tracy’s lawyers said Set The Expectation has folded and she is looking for unspecified damages.
