JACKSON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Jackson Public Schools will ask voters to approve a bond on Nov. 4 that will allow the district to borrow up to $126 million.

The district said the bond is needed for infrastructure improvements such as air conditioning upgrades and renovations to cafeterias, according to the district. In addition, the money would be used to upgrade sports facilities and parking areas and sites.

From 1999 through 2018 voters have passed four other bonds for Jackson Public Schools totaling $149.4 million. The last bond was in 2018 for $86.7 million.

But voter support for approving additional funding for schools has waned statewide recently. Just 16 of 37 bonds for local school districts have passed so far in 2025 in Michigan, according to the state of Michigan Treasury.

In 2024, 42 school bond proposals failed and 41 passed, raising the question whether there is voter fatigue when it comes to approving bonds.
