HOWELL, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Vice President JD Vance spoke in Howell on Wednesday and used Detroit’s crime-riddled history as a chance to lambaste Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s leadership.

Vance referenced President Donald Trump’s recent deployment of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. and Memphis to curb crime in those cities.

Although Detroit is boasting the lowest crime numbers since 1965, it had the second-highest violent crime rate among major U.S. cities in 2024. It ranked behind only Memphis.
