ROCHESTER, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Labor Day usually means cookouts and parades, not classrooms shut down by mold. But at Delta Kelly Elementary in Rochester, the holiday came early after the district closed the school for testing and cleanup.
Parents were notified Aug. 26 that the school would stay closed until Sept. 2 “out of an abundance of caution.” District officials said early tests did not detect airborne black mold—the strain most likely to cause health issues—but they weren’t taking chances.

Cleanup crews from 360 Fire & Flood were contracted to tackle the problem, while Nova Environmental is running follow-up sampling, according to Rochester Community Schools Facebook post.
Nine indoor spaces and an outdoor control site were tested on Aug. 27, with results still pending. In the meantime, the district is swapping out all air filters, running purifiers, and scrubbing down classrooms to keep spores from spreading.
