LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Republican Party will hold a rally on Monday, September 15, at 4 p.m. on the East Lawn and steps of the Michigan Capitol in Lansing. The event is being billed as both a memorial and a call to action following the assassination of conservative activist and Turning Point USA co- founder Charlie Kirk.

Remembering Kirk.

Kirk, 31, was shot and killed earlier this week by a sniper while speaking before a student crowd at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He leaves behind his wife and two young children. His death has drawn sharp condemnation from Republican leaders nationwide, who have described it as political terrorism aimed at silencing conservative voices.

An attack on free speech and faith.

Michigan Rep. Jaime Greene (R-Richmond) said Kirk’s killing was “an attack on free speech, on faith, and on the very right of Americans to stand up for their values without fear of being silenced by violence.” She added, “Charlie Kirk was targeted because he spoke truth. Because he stood for freedom. Because he inspired a new generation to think for themselves.”

Rallying the base.

Michigan GOP Chairman Jim Runestad in a press release called on “patriots from every corner of our state” to attend the Lansing rally. He described the event as a chance to celebrate Kirk’s life, grieve together, and recommit to defending liberty.

“Charlie was never a man of despair. He was a man of action,” Runestad wrote in a statement announcing the rally. “In his honor, we will not sit idle.”

Republican lawmakers, activists, and supporters are expected to speak at the event, with participants pledging to continue Kirk’s mission of mobilizing young conservatives. They will also be pushing back against political violence and celebrating the freedoms that Kirk championed.

A symbol of resolve.

Greene underscored that Kirk’s death must be a turning point. “This assassination must be a line in the sand,” she said. “Enough is enough. America must rise above hate before it consumes us all.”

The rally at the Capitol is open to the public, and organizers say it will continue into the evening.
