LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Michigan’s largest hospital system is stepping back from child gender treatments.
Corewell Health announced September 10 it will stop prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors, citing “the serious risk of legal and regulatory action.”

The move comes on the heels of Michigan Medicine’s late-August decision to halt the same practices. Both announcements follow President Donald Trump’s January executive order discouraging gender procedures for children and threatening to pull federal research funding from institutions that provide them.
Corewell said its decision mirrors steps being taken at health systems nationwide and was made “to protect both our health care providers and our patients,” according to The Detroit News.
The system, however, said it will continue general and mental health care for those identifying as transgender.
