LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — College admissions usually mean essays, stress, and lots of prayer. Wayne State University, however, just simplified it for Detroit: if you’re a Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) junior with a 3.0 GPA and the right credits, you’re guaranteed a spot.
The program, called Warriors on the Rise, takes the suspense out of the admissions application process and folds in extras like mentoring, campus visits, and financial aid guidance, according to Today@Wayne. “Any time we can remove barriers and create more opportunities for our young people, we are onboard,” DPSCD deputy superintendent Alycia Meriweather said.

The first round of invitations will land in students’ inboxes in February 2026. Applicants still have to apply, but for those who qualify, the acceptance letter is a sure thing.
It’s the latest push in Wayne State’s affordability campaign, joining the Wayne State Guarantee (tuition-free for families making under $80,000) and the Heart of Detroit Tuition Pledge (free tuition for graduates of Detroit high schools).
Vice Provost Charles Cotton III said the goal is simple: “A program like this allows our prospective students to worry less about a college application and focus more on their studies.”
