GRAND BLANC, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Law enforcement still does not have a motive in the Sunday morning fire and shooting at the Grand Blanc Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that left five dead, including the shooter, and another eight people injured.

In a Monday afternoon press conference, police said everyone is accounted for and police are still working to clear the scene. They cautioned the public to avoid the area.

Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye described yesterday’s actions by 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford as “an evil act of violence.”

The F.B.I. said they’ve interviewed more than 100 victims and those interviews are ongoing. Officials referred to the shooting and fire as an “act of targeted violence,” but did not elaborate on that statement.

On Monday morning, police said they arrested a 21-year-old person who drove through the barricades at the scene and they are investigating whether that is related to yesterday’s events.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer spoke at the press conference as well, saying she spoke to President Donald Trump on Sunday and he offered his condolences to the state of Michigan.

“Your grief is our grief,” Gov. Whitmer said.
