ROCHESTER, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Oakland University said on Friday that law enforcement is investigating a recent social media post made by a student who called for the execution of Republican congressional candidate Mike Steger and another unidentified man.

Vance Patrick, chairman of the Oakland County Republican Party, identified the college student as Ash Bashir in a Facebook post. Attempts to reach Ash Bashir were not successful.

In the social media post, the student draws two red lines on a photo that points to two men and states, “can we execute these two things.” One of the men is Steger, who is standing behind a Steger for Congress sign.

“Unfortunately, this is part of a pattern of disturbing behavior coming from Oakland University students and staff. In recent months, we have witnessed students and faculty disrupt a prayer vigil held in memory of Charlie Kirk, a university staff member assault student activists by throwing a bag of trash at them, and veiled threats referencing snipers in the wake of Kirk’s tragic assassination,” Patrick said.

Patrick called for the immediate suspension of the student.

“We cannot allow our institutions of higher learning to become breeding grounds for violence, intimidation and hatred,” Patrick said.

Sen. Aric Nesbitt (R-Porter Township) also called on Oakland University to expel the student and end any financial aid or scholarships the student may be receiving.

“This disgusting hatred must never be tolerated in ANY environment, especially our universities,” Nesbitt said on X.
