LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) Campbell’s Soup is taking a Michigan congressional hopeful to court for mixing politics with its logo.

The soup company filed a federal lawsuit on October 10 against Democrat Shelby Campbell, accusing her of using its iconic red-and-white logo to stir up attention for her campaign. The complaint, filed in Detroit’s federal court, says Campbell’s unauthorized “Soup4Change” design and social-media branding falsely suggest an endorsement from the century-old company.

Campbell, 31, told The Detroit News she never meant to profit from the design and viewed it as a lighthearted reference to her family name and upbringing.

“We had the whole house decorated with Campbell’s logos,” she said, adding that her social-media handles have used “soup” for years.

Campbell’s, headquartered in Camden, New Jersey, didn’t see the humor. The company said her imitation branding led to voter confusion and tarnished its trademark. Lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter weeks before filing suit, but Campbell replied online, “I ain’t scared, byeeee.”

Campbell also drew attention earlier this month for posting a video mocking Charlie Kirk’s death, as reported by Michigan News Source.

Now, the self-styled “Soup for Change” candidate faces a legal battle that could end up costing more than a can of tomato bisque.
