LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel didn’t need a subpoena to serve up a scorching response to Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II recently when he decided the Democratic Party had too many lawyers and not enough “builders.”
This is insulting to the @DemocraticAGs who have done more to fight back against the lawlessness of the Trump administration than any other group of elected officials, and not what our party needs right now. https://t.co/KCJ9wGueAL

Gilchrist’s post on X on Sunday, October 12, which was accompanied with a video, brought the ire of Nessel who responded to his comment by saying, “This is insulting to the @DemocraticAGs who have done more to fight back against the lawlessness of the Trump administration than any other group of elected officials, and not what our party needs right now.”
In Gilchrist’s video, he also explains his broader frustration with Democrats who he says are “beholden to corporate interests” and rich donors and are “too scared to have a fight about anything important.” Because of this, Gilchrist said his party lost the votes of men and people of color in the 2024 election and he appealed for “new energy” for the party.
Nessel hasn’t endorsed anyone yet in the Democratic gubernatorial primary. As one of Michigan’s most prominent and outspoken political figures, her backing could carry significant influence with voters. While she hasn’t formally supported Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Nessel has appeared alongside Benson and Governor Gretchen Whitmer in a lighthearted “Charlie’s Angels”-style photo – a nod to the trio’s image as a powerhouse of female leadership in Michigan politics.
