WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Lawmakers who took part in a video where they said military personnel “must refuse illegal orders” may be rethinking their stunt.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump called for Michigan U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin and other Democratic lawmakers to be arrested over their remarks in the video. Although the lawmakers implored military personnel to refuse “illegal” and “unconstitutional” orders, they failed to specify those orders.

President Trump posted on social media that “an example must be set” when it comes to the lawmakers’ actions and words.

Slotkin and her fellow Democrats in the video doubled-down and turned up the political rhetoric, falsely accusing Trump of calling for their “murder.”

“What is most telling is that the President considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law,” they said in a press statement. However, the U.S. Justice Department must sort out whether the video incited an insurrection or participated in seditious behavior that is condemned by the Constitution with serious consequences.

Attorney Steve Dulan spoke on The Steve Gruber Show on Friday and gave his legal perspective. “Insurrection includes violence,” Dulan said. “Refusing to follow an order is not insurrection. Refusing to follow a lawful order is mutiny which is different. Seditious conspiracy is encouraging insurrection.” In addition, Dulan said the lawmakers in the video “were careful with their language.”

Senator Slotkin worked with Michigan GOP Congressman Tim Walberg when she served in the U.S. House. Rep. Walberg also appeared on Gruber’s show and did not mince words. “They didn’t give any specifics,” Congressman told Gruber. “If they can’t do that, then shut your mouths.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt corrected the record on Thursday and flipped the Democrat “murder” narrative. “Why aren’t you talking about what these members of Congress are doing to encourage it and incite violence?” Leavitt said in response to a reporter’s question. “They are literally saying to 1.3 million active duty service members to defy the chain of command, not to follow lawful orders!”

Leavitt also clarified, “They’re suggesting that the President has given illegal orders, which he has not.”

Also on Thursday, the Oakland County Republican Party called for Senator Slotkin’s resignation.
