WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – In the civilian world, people have the luxury of ignoring or pushing back on tasks they don’t want to do. In the military, it’s another story.

“When you get an order, you do it,” one combat veteran told Michigan News Source. He did not want to be identified. “There’s no real question about it.”

That’s why the video put out by U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan) and five other lawmakers last week makes no sense to the U.S. army vet who served for twenty years. “If an order is unethical, you can say ‘no.’ But there’s a chain of command to go around if that order is unethical.”

“Illegal orders” never defined.

Last week, the Trump administration and others blasted Slotkin for leading the way in a video with other lawmakers where they addressed military members and told them to “refuse illegal orders.” In the video and subsequent talk shows, none of the “Seditious Six” could specify any illegal or unconstitutional orders the Trump administration gave to military members.

Last Sunday, Senator Slotkin appeared to amp up the rhetoric when she referenced “videos coming out of places like Chicago” where Trump federalized National Guard members to deploy there. The city has also seen its fair share of protestors and agitators trying to make deportations of illegal aliens more difficult for U.S. Customs and Enforcement (ICE) officers.

“It makes me incredibly nervous that we’re about to see people in law enforcement people in uniform military get nervous get stressed [and] shoot at American civilians.”

Just days after her comments, law enforcement officials said an Islamic terrorist shot two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C. One member died, while the other is still in critical condition as of Friday morning. Slotkin, a former CIA officer, received pushback for her posts on social media where she sent “prayers and strength to the friends, families and fellow guardsmen of the two West Virginians who were shot in Washington, D.C. ”

The FBI has launched an investigation into the Democratic politicians in the video and requested interviews. U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) could face a court-martial if he’s recalled into active duty, according to reports.

The combat veteran told Michigan News Source that the politicians will likely “get away” with what they said in the video with no real consequences. However, he put next steps in the hands of Michiganders, not the courts.

“I hope Michigan selects a person that is credible and can run a decent Senate campaign to oust Slotkin,” he said.  She is up for reelection in 2030.
