CLARKSTON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — A routine school morning in Clarkston paused Nov. 19 when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity nearby prompted a districtwide shelter-in-place order.
Clarkston Community Schools alerted families just after 10 a.m. that buildings were securing entrances while classes continued inside. Superintendent Shawn Ryan said the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office advised the precaution after deputies were called to assist ICE agents searching for two individuals near Sashabaw and Clarkston roads.

A little more than an hour later, the district sent an all-clear notice. Regular operations resumed.
A shelter-in-place order keeps students indoors while instruction continues, limiting movement in and out of buildings—a precaution Michigan schools and others nationwide have used before during nearby police or emergency activity.
