WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – The Oakland County Republican Party didn’t take kindly to U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin’s video released earlier this week that encouraged military personnel to ignore orders from President Donald Trump. That’s why county party leaders are calling for the Michigan junior senator’s immediate resignation.

Chairman Vance Patrick accused Slotkin and her Democratic colleagues of using the military as “a pawn in political games.”

Patrick said, “When you put on the uniform, you swear an oath to the Constitution and the chain of command, not to a particular political party or a particular president. For Senator Slotkin to even suggest that troops can pick and choose which orders to follow isn’t just dangerous, it would be considered seditious conspiracy.”

In addition, the Oakland County Republican Party called on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Senator Slotkin’s actions.

Senator Slotkin and a handful of other Democratic lawmakers who served in the military participated in the video. While they refused to specifically spell out any unconstitutional or illegal orders given by the Commander in Chief to the military, they did repeat this message: “You can refuse illegal orders. You must refuse illegal orders.”
