The Detroit City Council recently received an update on the Detroit City Football Club proposed new stadium. The pro soccer team plays in Hamtramck at Keyworth Stadium, which holds 8,000. The developers propose a new 11-acre development that will be anchored by a 15,000-seat soccer stadium. The development will have a 421-space parking deck, 680-surface parking spaces, and 8,500 square feet of retail space. The stadium will be privately financed.
The city’s memo says that based on a recent parking plan, most of the parking for the stadium would have to be absorbed in the surrounding neighborhood. In addition, memo stated that even before the new stadium was proposed, there were “already issues related to parking in the impact area.”
The Detroit City Football Club bought land at the corner of Michigan Avenue and 20th Street so it could build the stadium. The team wants to have the new stadium operational for the 2027 season.
