MANTON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The heartbreaking homicide of 22-year-old Rebecca Park and her unborn baby has sparked a wave of compassion across Manton and Wexford County. Friends, neighbors, and even complete strangers are rallying to support Rebecca’s two young sons and her adoptive parents, Stephanie and Rodney Park, as the family prepares to eventually lay Rebecca to rest.
The family is carrying the weight of an unimaginable tragedy.
The couple, who adopted Rebecca and her sister Kimberly as infants, along with their older brother, is also raising Rebecca’s two boys, ages 2 and 3. They have been caring for Kimberly’s 1-year-old daughter as well while she has been in jail on charges in connection to the homicide, including tampering with evidence, lying to a peace officer, and filing a false report of a felony.

Rebecca was 38 weeks pregnant when she disappeared. She was later found murdered, her baby cut from her body. The infant is believed to have died, though law enforcement has not confirmed his location – or given the cause of death for either Rebecca or her infant son who she was going to name Richard (Richie).
Rodney and Stephanie, both in their 50s, are caring for all three children on a single income as the family works to give Rebecca a proper funeral and build a secure future for the children they are caring for.
Fundraiser planned.
A spaghetti dinner fundraiser, silent auction, and bake sale will be held Saturday, December 13 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. at the Manton Consolidated Schools’ “Ranger Room.” Organizers Martha Snyder and Alycia Thompson have announced that 100% of cash donations will be placed into a trust for Rebecca’s surviving children, ensuring long-term support as they grow up.
According to the Parks couple, they are all set with clothes and toys for the young children but deeply grateful for the community’s generosity to help with the trust for the children. They are also requesting fabric donations so Stephanie can create a memorial quilt for the boys in honor of their mother – something handmade they can hold through the years.
Funeral costs loom as family cares for three young children.
The fundraiser is also critical because the family must cover funeral expenses in the future. Rebecca did not have life insurance, and her aunt, Angie Cargill, said that her brother and sister-in-law want to “give her a nice funeral” despite the suddenness and tragedy of Rebecca’s death and that of her child.
Stephanie, now caring full-time for a one-, two-, and three-year-old, is unable to work, while Rebecca’s father, Rodney, the family’s breadwinner, is “not doing good at all” as he grieves his daughter’s violent loss, said Cargill. The aunt adds about Rebecca and her sister, Kimberly, “They were spoiled. They lived a good life until they moved out.”

Cargill told Michigan News Source that people she works with who know about the situation have been generous and supportive, handing her cash to help the family. “My brother is broke, Cargill said. “He needs help with these babies.”
