In 2024, the city of Dearborn’s residents voted for Trump over Kamala Harris 17,796-15,189.

Self-proclaimed MAGA supporters who have an online following have targeted Dearborn for what has been described as the Islamization of the city, such as having the Muslim call to prayer several times a day. Mellissa Carone, who went by the handle MagaMama, had her TikTok account shut down after coming to Dearborn and posting videos of the call to prayer.

In addition, GOP gubernatorial candidate and Trump supporter Anthony Hudson led a march through Dearborn on Nov. 18 to put the city on notice that Christians were watching and becoming politically active.

National coverage.

In October 2024, the New York Times reported on Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib’s endorsement of Trump.

“Mr. Ghalib pointed to a distaste for liberal social views, anger at President [Joe] Biden’s support of Israel and a belief that Mr. Trump will end the conflict in the Middle East,” the New York Times reported.

The Halal Times, which advertises itself as the largest platform for Islamic teaching, said Trump’s messaging of peace struck a chord with Muslims. The Halal Times said a key moment was Harris’ immediate response to the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.

In addition, The Halal Times reported: ” … states like Michigan and Pennsylvania, where Muslim voters were drawn to Trump’s promise of peace in the Middle East—a stark contrast to Democratic policies that many felt had exacerbated conflicts in the region. … Vice President Kamala Harris’ response to the conflict, described as unwavering support for Israel, alienated many in the Muslim community. ‘Unfortunately, the first thing that came out of [Harris’ team’s] mouth is that there will be no change in foreign policy regarding Lebanon and Israel,’said Albert Abbas, a prominent Muslim businessman in Michigan.”
