DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – What sounds like a scene out of an action movie unfolded when Detroit police, Michigan State Police (MSP), and ATF agents attempted to arrest a man linked to a non-fatal shooting that seriously injured a person, along with multiple shots-fired incidents across the city. The attempted arrest spiraled into a chaotic, multi-agency pursuit that ended with the suspect shot and in critical condition.
According to Police1, an online destination for law enforcement professionals, the result of the suspect’s evasion from the police from the November 14 incident turned into an air unit tracking him as well as a vehicle pursuit by officers. Along the way, the suspect pointed his gun at bystanders and tried to carjack them. He was successful in carjacking an individual, fired shots at ATF agents and then fled again.
PIT maneuver ends the chase.

MSP performed a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver, after which the suspect’s stolen vehicle rolled over and landed upright. A PIT maneuver is a law-enforcement driving tactic used to safely stop a fleeing vehicle during a pursuit where an officer pulls alongside the suspect’s car and lightly taps the rear quarter panel (near the back wheel) of the fleeing vehicle. This contact disrupts the car’s traction, causing it to spin sideways and lose control, ideally coming to a stop.
After the vehicle was stopped, the suspect got out and fled again.
Video from the aerial unit, body cam and dash cam footage captures the suspect’s misguided attempts to flee and ignore law enforcement instructions. At the end of the pursuit, when he raised his gun after refusing to drop his weapon, an officer fired multiple shots at him, leaving the suspect in a hospital in critical condition.
Facing federal charges.
The suspect now faces charges for carjacking, assaulting and attempting to murder ATF Special Agents and weapons offenses.
U.S. Attorney Gorgon said, “This man is an agent of chaos…He tore through our city streets, raising hell. We are thankful for the brave men who put a stop to the defendant’s rampage…When individuals are alleged to commit violence at this level, we will respond decisively with sound policing techniques and strategies using every lawful tool to bring these urban terrorists to the federal justice system.”
