LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan House Republicans recently posted on X about a 2026 priority: granting residents property tax relief.

“It’s time to take a hard look at how high property taxes have gotten and how fast they have grown,” the House GOP stated.

Municipalities have benefitted from the increase in property taxes in the post-pandemic world.

The city of Lansing has seen its property tax revenue jump from $41.7 million in 2019 to $69.1 million in 2024.

Other cities have also been flush with property tax revenues:

  • Detroit: $162.4 million in 2019 to $210.3 million in 2024.
  • Troy: $51.1 million in 2019 to $62.1 million in 2024.
  • Grand Rapids: $41.5 million in 2019 to $55.4 million in 2024.
