LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Republican lawmakers want to bring federal DOGE efforts to Michigan.
Accountability and transparency.
State Rep. James DeSana (R-Carleton) announced the Michigan DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) Task Force, a new legislator-led, citizen-focused initiative. He said it will target inefficiencies within the state government, reduce government waste, shrink departments, and make sure taxpayers know where their money ends up.

DeSana said lawmakers must listen to taxpayers. “Michiganders deserve a government that works for them, not against them,” DeSana said at Thursday’s press conference. “The DOGE Task Force…is about accountability, transparency, and delivering results.”
Michigan Dems hit back.
The task force draws its name and inspiration from DOGE efficiency efforts under the Trump administration. Michigan Democrats blasted the task force and this week’s announcement that the House Appropriations Committee voted to discontinue $645 million in funding for special programs statewide. “They don’t care if you’re living paycheck to paycheck, if you can’t afford health care, or if you’re retired and on a fixed income,” said Minority Leader Rep. Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton).
Transparency bills headed to Gov. Whitmer’s desk.
Meanwhile, the development of the DOGE task force coincides with House Bill 4420 and Senate Bill 596 which now head to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s desk. Those bills require proposed enhancement grants to be posted online at least 45 days before any budget vote.
House Appropriations Chair Rep. Ann Bollin (R-Brighton Township) said, “People expect us to protect every tax dollar, and that starts with a budget process they can see.”
The Republican members of the Michigan DOGE Task Force Initiative are the following: Reps. James DeSana, chair of the task force, Ann Bollin, Steve Carra, Jaime Greene, Jay DeBoyer, Gina Johnsen, Joseph Pavlov, Bill Schuette, Bradley Slagh, Rachelle Smit, Donni Steele, Jason Woolford, and Jennifer Wortz.
