DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – A couple of relics from the tragic shipwreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald were sold at auction last Friday for a combined $150,000.

The items—a life ring and a piece of wood from a lifeboat—were discovered by Larry Orr in 1975 along the shore of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Orr, who had been taking a break from his job, stumbled upon the relics just eight days after the ship sank in Lake Superior.

The Edmund Fitzgerald, which went down during a storm on Nov. 10, 1975, has remained one of the most well-known maritime tragedies in Great Lakes history. Artifacts from the ship are rare, making Orr’s discoveries highly sought after by collectors and history enthusiasts alike.

The auction drew attention from buyers across the country, highlighting the enduring fascination with the story of the Fitzgerald and the lives lost in the tragedy.
