WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Public opinion on America’s founding ideals remains sharply divided, and they appear to be in flux.

According to a Napolitan News Source recent poll, 45% of voters say President Donald Trump believes in the nation’s founding principles. That figure has slipped three points since he took office. At the same time, skepticism has grown: 46% now say Trump opposes those ideals, which is up six points.

Views of political factions are equally fractured. Fifty-one percent of voters believe MAGA Republicans are opposed to America’s founding ideals, though that sentiment has eased slightly. It’s down three points since mid-September.

Progressive Democrats draw mixed reactions. About 45% of voters say progressives oppose the nation’s founding ideals, while 40% believe they support them. Another 14% say they’re unsure, highlighting lingering ambiguity about where progressives stand.

When it comes to the parties as a whole, Republicans hold a modest edge: 52% of voters say the GOP supports America’s founding ideals, compared with 44% who say the same about Democrats.

As the U.S. moves into its midterm election cycle in 2026, it remains to be seen how these numbers will ebb and flow.
