BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad posted on X a photo of himself standing next to Hamtramck’s newly elected Mayor Adam Alharbi.
Alharbi was sworn in on Sunday.
“Hamtramck Mayor Alharbi is one of four Muslim Mayors in the Great State of Michigan,” Muhammad posted, then adding the hashtag #MuslimMayorsMatter.
Former Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib was the first Muslim mayor in Michigan. He was elected mayor in November 2021 and took office in January 2022.
Abdullah Hammoud is the mayor of Dearborn and Mo Baydoun is the mayor of Dearborn Heights. Baydoun replaced Bill Bazzi as the city’s mayor. Bazzi was also a Muslim.
