GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source)Central Michigan University (CMU) is putting money behind its diploma.

Beginning this fall, CMU will offer up to $2,000 in financial support to eligible graduates who fail to secure a job offer or admission to graduate school within six months of graduation, under a new initiative dubbed the Central Career Guarantee.

University officials say the program is designed to reinforce what CMU already claims to deliver. According to the school, 94% of recent graduates land employment or continue their education after earning a degree.

The guarantee isn’t automatic. Students must opt in early—during their first semester—and follow a structured career plan that includes regular meetings with career coaches and participation in professional development activities. Eligibility is limited to domestic undergraduate students with at least 60 credit hours remaining.

CMU said it is the first public university in Michigan to offer a program tying financial compensation to post-graduation outcomes.

“We’re confident that we offer students an exceptional education that delivers real-world results, and now we guarantee it,” CMU President Neil MacKinnon said in a statement.
