WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Congressman Shri Thanedar (D) called to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) but his actions have been met with a chilly response.
Thanedar introduced the “Abolish ICE Act” last week. The legislation would dismantle ICE and its current enforcement authority.

“Since ICE’s establishment in 2003, they’ve prioritized aggressive enforcement and violence rather than due process,” Rep. Thanedar said in a statement. “Americans are being terrorized.”
Rep. Thanedar also told the media the same end can be accomplished without ICE. “We do not need the murders. We do not need this paramilitary organization’s members on our streets terrorizing U.S. citizens, terrorizing moms [and] terrorizing our children.”

Thanedar’s actions are merely theater. The bill is likely to get shut down in the House. However, even if it does pass both chambers President Donald Trump will not sign it into law.

However, bad theater sometimes makes for good television. Rep. Thanedar appeared on Fox News where host Sean Hannity challenged the congressman over his refusal to stand while President Donald Trump acknowledged grieving families of victims killed by illegal aliens during last year’s address to a joint session of Congress and the nation.
“Sean, thanks for having me.” Thanedar said at the start of the interview. Hannity interrupted him, saying “I don’t need the thanks. Did you stand or not?”
Sean obliterates Rep. Shri Thanedar on national TV:
HANNITY: You refused to stand for little girls rped and mrdered by illegal immigrants?
SHRI: I wouldn’t stand for this president.
HANNITY: Have you EVER called a victim’s family?
SHRI: I talk to my constituents—

Last August, Thanedar pushed to strip ICE agents from qualified immunity protections. In December, he introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth over the drug boat deaths near Venezuela.
