LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Republican State Rep. Jay DeBoyer (R-Clay Township) said Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel would resign if she “had an ounce of integrity” as she faces growing pressure for two incidents involving conflict of interest accusations.
Charges against Nessel’s ally.
“If she had an ounce of integrity she would resign,” DeBoyer said Thursday morning when asked by radio host Steve Gruber if Nessel should resign.

DeBoyer, the chair of the House Oversight Committee, said Nessel violated firewalls put in place to prevent her from interfering in the cases involving a political ally and her own wife.
Traci Kornak, the former treasurer for the state Democratic Party, was charged with embezzlement by the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday. Kornak served as the court-appointed conservator of an elderly woman who was mentally challenged and is accused of taking financial advantage of her. Kornak served on Nessel’s transition team.
Nessel’s Financial Crimes Division and the Health Care Fraud Division conducted two investigations on Kornak. Both division closed the cases without any charges against Kornak. The AG’s office said there was a “lack of cooperating complainant.”
Another conflict of interest.
On Jan. 12, the Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) filed a complaint with the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission asking it to investigate Nessel’s professional conduct involving two incidents that were the target of two House Oversight Hearings claiming Nessel had a conflict of interest.
The House Oversight Committee also stated that Nessel contacted Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and talked to her about a criminal investigation that involved Nessel’s spouse.
Nessel was accused during that legislative hearing of an ethical breach when she personally contacted Benson and asked her to take back a criminal recommendation Benson’s office made in a case that involved Nessel’s spouse, Alanna Maguire.
