LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Transparency is on the agenda in the Michigan House for 2026.
House Bill 4822 would require the Natural Resources Commission to live-stream its public meetings, post links to those streams at least 24 hours in advance, and maintain a searchable online archive of past meetings for anyone to view later. The bill now sits in the Michigan Senate after passing by a vote of 99-1 last month.

State Rep. Joseph Pavlov (R-Smiths Creek) is one of the lawmakers who voted in favor of the bill. He said it is important to allow residents to watch the discussions and follow decisions made by the state.
“It’s important that Michiganders can see how the state makes decisions about our public lands, wildlife, and outdoor traditions,” Pavlov said. “Requiring live streams and an archive of NRC meetings helps hunters, anglers and small businesses stay informed without having to travel to Lansing.”
The Natural Resources Commission’s seven members are appointed by Michigan’s governor. According to the state, the Natural Resources Commission “has exclusive authority to regulate the taking of game and sportfish, and is authorized to designate game species and authorize the establishment of the first open season for animals through the issuance of orders.” It operates monthly public meetings statewide.
