LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is traveling overseas on Michigan taxpayers’ dime once again.
The term-limited Democrat started an “investment mission” on Monday in Switzerland. She said in a press release she hopes to secure more global partnerships for Michigan.

“Michigan is open for business, and we’re continuing to compete and win on the global stage,” said Governor Whitmer. “I’m excited to tell Michigan’s story this week and build relationships directly with global leaders at the World Economic Forum.”
Whitmer is also traveling with Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) CEO Quentin Messer. He and his department are under investigation by Attorney General Dana Nessel. The investigation hits close to home for Whitmer since it involves taxpayer money being funded through the Michigan Legislature to the MEDC and onto Whitmer donor Faye Beydoun and her now-defunct nonprofit.
Last year, Whitmer traveled to Japan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
In October 2025, lawmakers cited Whitmer’s travel expenses for that year came in around $1 million.
