WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – The president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) union called the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis an “unconscionable” act of violence and said she was “murdered.”

Randi Weingarten, president of the teachers union, made her statements in an email on Sunday.

“This week, we witnessed unconscionable acts of violence by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Minnesota—including the murder of Renee Nicole Good, the unjust detention of an AFT-member educator and use of pepper spray on school property where students and teachers were gathered. These disturbing moments have understandably shaken many of us across the country,” Weingarten stated.

AFT is the national organization that represents such public school districts in Michigan as the Dearborn Federation of Teachers and the Detroit Federation of Teachers.

The union has worked to undermine President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

On Monday, the local chapter AFT-Michigan sent an email asking members to write to Congress and tell them to keep ICE out of schools.
